I think it was unclear what was non-standard. /tmp is a directory, but is not tmpfs (unless set up that way, which we don't support). Here's some info on tmpfs if curious: https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentatio ... /tmpfs.txt
The reason he asked about a tmpfs is because your files are getting cleared. This is not the only reason things get cleared, but it is a reason. Debian, for example, automatically cleans /tmp. It's possible you have some sort of cleaning mechanism set up.
As for upgrading to 3.0.1, all software has bugs. We fix those bugs and release new versions. It takes some time to update the documentation accordingly.
