That error almost exclusively pertains to Windows permissions issues or incorrect credentials. Have you tried creating a fresh WMI user following the documentation:

Yes, with no luck but I was able to use the user to connect to the windows machine using PRTG and Solarwinds without any issues.

I tried connecting to another windows server and to my surprise the credentials went through. But when I tried to look at the service status I got the same error:

UNKNOWN - The WMI query had problems. You might have your username/password wrong or the user's access level is too low. Wmic error text on the next line.
[librpc/rpc/dcerpc_util.c:1290:dcerpc_pipe_auth_recv()] Failed to bind to uuid 4d9f4ab8-7d1c-11cf-861e-0020af6e7c57 - NT_STATUS_NET_WRITE_FAULT
[librpc/rpc/dcerpc_connect.c:790:dcerpc_pipe_connect_b_recv()] failed NT status (c0000022) in dcerpc_pipe_connect_b_recv
[wmi/wmic.c:196:main()] ERROR: Login to remote object.

I have attached a screenshot as well.

Were you able to get this resolved in the quickstart?

unfortunately no. We spent the one hour to troubleshoot this issue with no luck :-(. I was really hoping that this will get resolved. Any other suggestions on how to get this resolved is really appreciated. I cannot justify paying for NagiosXI to management if a free software like solarwinds is able to connect to our VM's using WMI without any issue.

I think this might be an issue with the version of WMIC we distribute with Nagios XI. I'm going to explore some alternatives that may be implemented in the future, though unfortunately I'm unable to offer an immediate solution to the problem. I know you mentioned that agents were going to be prohibitive, though enabling the Windows SNMP agent might be one option that requires less overhead:

We were able to enable SNMP without an issue and would be proceeding with setting up all our VM's with SNMP. Thank you for your support!!

Awesome - did you have any further questions about WMI?

As for the WMI portion, I'd be interested to see what the calls from the wmic bin directly result in. Were they working properly?

Well, just keep us posted if you ever find a resolution for WMI.

It seems as though we don't have a good mechanism for updating people about bug fixes other than the changelog. I do know we have someone looking into this, but unfortunately I can't really give an ETA. If you just want to bookmark this thread and ask again in a couple of months, we will be happy to give you a status update.
