Unfortunately, installed this way really isn't supportable. With what you have told me, I would guess that the problem may be related to an Apache problem with nagiosql, but no way for me to know for sure...
I mentioned this before in a post. It isn't very logical to expect a new production server to be a base install. Quite frustrating. There are no guesses as to what I can check?

I get the directory contents as a dir listing. Perhaps I need to add in a php handler?

Yep. Nagiosql and nagiosxi both use php...

Thank you for your help, I asked our Sr Architect, I had to just cp over conf files to a different directory to enable it. I wasn't aware of that.
