I've downloaded the check_winprocess.exe and there were 2 files

check_winprocess.exe
check_winprocess.pl

I copied these 2 files to the c:\program files\nsclient++\scripts foler

Then went into the nsc.ini and added under the external scripts section

check_winprocess.exe=scripts\check_winprocess.exe

I then run
\check_winprocess.exe --filter "imagename eq explorer.exe"

in the test and get the following message

\check_winprocess.exe --filter "imagename eq explorer.exe"
d NSClient++.cpp(1144) Injecting: \check_winprocess.exe: --filter, imagename eq
explorer.exe
l NSClient++.cpp(1195) No handler for command: '\check_winprocess.exe'
No handler for command: \check_winprocess.exe

I am missing something obviously.

Your missing the Args

check_winprocess=scripts\check_winprocess.exe $ARG1$ $ARG2$

check_winprocess.exe --filter ""imagename eq explorer.exe""
d NSClient++.cpp(1144) Injecting: check_winprocess.exe: --filter, "imagename, eq

d NSClient++.cpp(1180) Injected Result: OK 'PROCESS OK - 1 process(es)'
d NSClient++.cpp(1181) Injected Performance Result: 'processes=1;;;'
OK:PROCESS OK - 1 process(es)|processes=1;;;

Here is the result

check_winprocess.exe --filter "imagename eq explorer.exe"
d NSClient++.cpp(1144) Injecting: check_winprocess.exe: --filter, imagename eq e
xplorer.exe
d NSClient++.cpp(1180) Injected Result: OK 'ERROR: The search filter cannot be r

you must double wrap in quotes, so that one set of quotes are interpreted by check_winprocess.exe

for example:
check_winprocess.exe --filter ""imagename eq explorer.exe""

I ran the following command

check_winprocess.exe --filter ""imagename eq explorer.exe""

I got this

check_winprocess.exe --filter ""imagename eq explorer.exe""
d NSClient++.cpp(1144) Injecting: check_winprocess.exe: --filter, "imagename, eq
, explorer.exe"
e \NRPEListener.cpp(204) Request string contained illegal metachars!
l NSClient++.cpp(1195) No handler for command: 'check_winprocess.exe'
No handler for command: check_winprocess.exe

samton99,

All of this checks I was able to run without any issue on my installation of NSClient++ using the NSC.ini you posted. Something strange is going on on your installation.

Can you uninstall 0.3.8 and upgrade to 0.3.9. You can backup your current NSC.ini file for use after install of 0.3.9.

32bit

Code: Select all

http://files.nsclient.org/x-0.3.x_STABLE/NSClient%2B%2B-0.3.9-Win32.msi
64bit

Code: Select all

http://files.nsclient.org/x-0.3.x_STABLE/NSClient%2B%2B-0.3.8-x64.msi

Hello,

I uninstalled the nsclient++ and then installed 0.3.8 64 bit. (I am not sure what you mean by upgrade to 0.3.9 because there is no 64 bit version)

Then I coped over the nsc.ini file and also the check_winprocess.exe into the scripts folder and still get the same thing. Here is my nsc.ini file again incase there is something wrong.

Using the .ini you posted and NSCLient 0.3.9 64 bit I was able to monitor explorer.exe

Did you restart after installing the upgrade? can you try alias_process from NRPE now on the new version

./check_nrpe -H <your ip> -c alias_process -a explorer.exe
OK: All processes are running.|'Explorer.EXE'=1;0;0

hmmmm....

what upgrade i only have 0.3.8 64 bit.

Where do I find 0.3.9 64 bit

When i run
./check_nrpe -H <your ip> -c alias_process -a explorer.exe

from nagios i get

OK: All processes are running.

nothing about explorer.exe

Here is the download link for NSClient++

http://nsclient.org/nscp/downloads/

Upgrade to the latest stable 0.3.9 and reboot.
