Hi Tom,
My apologies - this is what happens when time threads get a little thin. The guidance provided was intended for you - it appears that gd-devel is no longer in a number of repos but you should be able to download and use the CentOS rpm if the RHEL version is unavailable.

My Linux Admin wasn't keen using CENTOS, so he did some searching and found a newer version of gd-devel on the redhat repo.
"it was just right there available from Red Hat - you have to make sure your server has this repo ENABLED: rhel-7-server-optional-rpms" <<< Solution
After the "gd-devel" install, the Nagios update completed using the GUI.
