I did a bit of research on this and it could be memory related.

How much RAM do you have available on the machine?

I was thinking it was memory related as well; the box only has 128MB of RAM. Maybe there's some way to have gcc/related use less memory?

Even if you could get it to compile, the minimum specs to run XI is 1 GB of RAM, 8 times what you have on this machine...
