I realise now, that the reason it's getting reset is that the values are in the DB, so when I've been correcting the issue directly in the /usr/local/nagios/etc/commands.cfg file, on reboot or potentially other process restart/reload, the DB populates the file...

I have altered the values in the GUI and can see that the file now has the right settings.

Another occasion where my 10 years of Nagios v1.2 "experience" (all files & no DB/GUI) has bitten me on the bum.

Ah, at least that part makes sense, the password change causing issues is still a mystery. Ok, so where is the issue at from here? Are you interested in a remote session today or Monday to just get this wrapped up?

A remote session might be just what we need please; drop me an email. Today would be best, as our boss is getting impatient about the new Nagios XI system going officially "live"...

We changed the password of the "nagiosadmin" user to see if that had a bearing on our graphing problems, but that was a red-herring, so my goal is to set the password back to our preferred value.

The main reason we started looking into the users is that my user (chrisp) has never been able to log into Nagios Core. I logged in as "nagiosadmin" and deleted my "chrisp" user, then re-created that user making sure to do it via the NagiosXI GUI "Admin->Manage Users". This did not fix the problem and various other issues led us to believe that deleting the "chrisp" user had perhaps tickeled a bug and caused lots of different DB-related problems.

I think if we can crack this user issue and make sure that we've got the system stable and reliable, we won't be in too much trouble with our manager :)

Can you send a email to [email protected] with this thread linked, and a remote session request? That would expedite things greatly.
