Use the AD component and remove the ldap component. Trying to use both will lead to conflicts.

I've already removed the LDAP component, this hasn't solved anything.
Since this component is a beta and there isn't much documentation, am I on my own from this point?

Not entirely as we have a number of clients successfully running this component. Have you check the AD server's logs for potential hints? Specifically its connection logs for failed login attempts from the XI ip?
