Where to start!?
Re: Where to start!?
To clarify, are you trying to create a new host?
To do this, you should be able to create a new configuration file with a host definition and then make sure your nagios.cfg is referencing it.

Re: Where to start!?
The basic process is:
It's easier to explain in real time. PM me and we'll set something up.
- Add remote host to Nagios in hosts.cfg
- Add NRPE to remote host
- Configure Nagios's services.cfg to check services on remote host via check_nrpe wrapper
- Configure remote host to accept NRPE checks from Nagios server and combine check_nrpe wrapper arguments with arguments specified in NRPE's common.cfg (for example) config file
It's easier to explain in real time. PM me and we'll set something up.

In addition to what rkennedy and eloyd said, I will offer a link to our Nagios Core documentation about defining host objects. Hope this helps.

And lastly, as a cheap shot, I'll say that this is, in part, what my company does for a living. We'd be happy to set up some consulting time for you.

Re: Where to start!?
No updates - I have been reading through the documentation - and trying to get a picture of everything. Plus might be licking my wounds a bit from the cheap shot
.
I'm learning - but still struggling.
thanks

Re: Where to start!?
So I have been a bit quiet on this lately -mainly cause I was trying to convince my office to purchase Nagios Core. Unfortunately I couldn't get the funding for it ... so I am back at it trying to get it up and running so that I can monitor our clients.
Thanks again for everyone's help thus far.

Nagios Core is free. Do you mean Nagios XI?
