To clarify, are you trying to create a new host?

To do this, you should be able to create a new configuration file with a host definition and then make sure your nagios.cfg is referencing it.

The basic process is:
  • Add remote host to Nagios in hosts.cfg
  • Add NRPE to remote host
  • Configure Nagios's services.cfg to check services on remote host via check_nrpe wrapper
  • Configure remote host to accept NRPE checks from Nagios server and combine check_nrpe wrapper arguments with arguments specified in NRPE's common.cfg (for example) config file
[/list]

It's easier to explain in real time. PM me and we'll set something up.

In addition to what rkennedy and eloyd said, I will offer a link to our Nagios Core documentation about defining host objects. Hope this helps.

And lastly, as a cheap shot, I'll say that this is, in part, what my company does for a living. We'd be happy to set up some consulting time for you.

No updates - I have been reading through the documentation - and trying to get a picture of everything. Plus might be licking my wounds a bit from the cheap shot ;).

I'm learning - but still struggling.

thanks
S.

So I have been a bit quiet on this lately -mainly cause I was trying to convince my office to purchase Nagios Core. Unfortunately I couldn't get the funding for it ... so I am back at it trying to get it up and running so that I can monitor our clients.

Thanks again for everyone's help thus far.
