Strange. Are you positive nothing else was performed on this server around the same time as the ndo2db restart?
Are there any errors in /var/log/messages, specifically query errors?
If the behavior returns, lets move to a remote session as soon as possible to troubleshoot the problem live!

yeah Andy, 100% sure. I'll have to check messages and see, will edit this if so. If/when it returns I'll open a ticket so we can look at it live!

Curious, you may be starting to experience a problem I've been fighting for some time. On my larger nagios installation similar I believe to yours, fortunately, it's very infrequent. However, on a smaller system I have it is much more frequent. I've set up nagiosreactor to bounce the nagios and ndo2db when the problem manifests.
