Ok, let';s see if you can help me then
I installed MRTG.
seems to be running OK. did all the initial config and stuff
the check_rrndf is now working fine. I donlt have that error any more. Now I just need MRTG to go ahead and do the actual checks

If you netmount (nfs/etc) /var/lib/mrtg, you can run mrtg on a remote server, and due to the /var/lib/mrtg nfs mount, check_rrdtraf should still be able to check against the mrtg rrds. You will most likely need to rsync/netmount /etc/mrtg/ as well (as the mrtg config and .d directory need to be accessible by the remote system and by nagios XI for the switch/router wizard).
Does that make sense?

Let me know how this works for you. I have successfully assisted multiple clients with this configuration. If you run into issues, we could escalate the incident to a ticket and subsequent remote session to help you finalize the config.
