I am doing pings from another tool and it does work fine
like I said, nagios is able to ping it but sometimes timesout

I assume this other tool is running on your XI server? When is check_ping failling for this device, (is there a particular time of the day that this occurs)? Is this other tool running at the time of the failure and can give you RTA statistics?
I am told check_icmp is more efficient then check_ping. You could try using check_icmp in place of the check_ping.

I have not seen an timeout since this morning. I will continue to monitor the devices
