Excellent, this is where the problem is occurring.

MRTG runs every 5 minutes as a cron job
When the next 5 minute interval occurs, the cron job tries to run again but MRTG detects its already running so it does not continue, hence NO DATA is collected at that five minute interval.
This will keep happening until the existing MRTG cron job completes, no data is collected
So if no data is being collected then you will have gaps in your graphs

The "Forks: 4" option in /etc/mrtg/mrtg.cfg makes MRTG run faster as it processes x mount of configs (in this case 4) when it runs, it is forking instead or running one after the other.
You can increase the Forks number to suit the size of your server.

Try "Forks: 16" and then then see if that fixes the gaps problem.

Can you post your /etc/mrtg/mrtg.cfg file so we can look at it to see if there is an entry causing this issue?
How many config files are in this folder /etc/mrtg/conf.d/ and what is the average number of ports per device are you monitoring?
Also, run the following commands and post the output.

If you are only seeing gaps in bandwidth graphs, then this must be mrtg related and not a system wide problem.

If this is the case, I would suggest doubling the amount of forks again.
