You got to be f**ing kidding me.

It actually works!

Thank's very much for your help, sirs!

This has made my day, and it's only early in the morning (sort of) where I live. I won't tell you where I am from, but if you ever come to "Narway" I'll buy you beer!

Thanks again lads. It's nice to make it work at last!

When the going get's tough, the tough get's going...

I have managed to add one of the vm-servers.

But when I try to add a vmware guest that is currently residing in a virtual way inside that magic, I get An error occurred while attempting to apply your configuration to the monitoring engine. Contact your Nagios administrator if this problem persists.

Since I am the Nagios administrator I don't really know what to do. I can see all servers when adding, but get the same error whether I add 1 or 40.

Any ideas?

Does the message say you have a "configuration error", or something else. If it's a configuration error, see the wiki below.

Otherwise, run:

Code: Select all

cd /usr/local/nagiosxi/scripts
./reconfigure_nagios.sh &> output.txt
and post the output.txt file.

This is what I get from the config files:

Most of the errors consists of The description string for service ' DB%2fWEBSERVER w2003 CPU Usage' on host 'mc.dorkid.com' contains one or more illegal characters

output.txt says:
The description string for service..... input / Output Status on host 'mc.dorkid.com' contains one or more illegal characters.
The description string for service..... Memory Status on host 'mc.dorkid.com' contains one or more illegal characters.
The description string for service.....Networking Status on host 'mc.dorkid.com' contains one or more illegal characters.
The description string for service.....VM Status on host 'mc.dorkid.com' contains one or more illegal characters.

Totalt Warnings: 0 Total Errors: 5

Any idea?

markers,

Get rid of the illegal characters and you will be able to apply configuration. Nagios cannot start or restart with a bad configuration:

Maybe I fixed it? What I did, was going the Core Config Manager route, deleting all services and hosts.

Now I added a few vmware-guests and the vm-server itself.

But I can't see them in Nagios. How come not?

The config ok though. Thanks a lot!

Did you forget to apply the configuration? Try using the Write Config Tool again. Go to: Nagios Core Config Manager->Tools->Write Config Files and click on all four "Go" buttons. It should show up if you have any errors.

THAT I wasn't aware of.

Now it seems that some of my guests are actually showing up at my door.

I am more than eager the let them in.

Thanks again for all your help, everyone.

I am most grateful, and if you ever come to the western part of Norway, I'll even buy you a beer. Even though it's extremely expensive here :-)

I'm glad I could help! I don't think I'll make it to Norway anytime soon, but it sounds good! :D
