I am still getting NRPE timeout some 60 some not but for most part 60 now

Question of the day is why does this happen in the first place.

Looking into escalation settings so I do not get bombed with emails

Thoughts?

update

Still getting issues with VMs I placed in the time period

CRITICAL 02-23-2017 21:16:23 0d 0h 5m 22s 1/3 (Service check timed out after 61.42 seconds)

Thoughts

When running the check_nrpe against a remote host and that remote host doesn't respond within the timeout period, it will timeout the plugin so it will not continue running the plugin on the server and fill up it's memory.
And it will give the socket timeout message.
Without getting all of the configuration files and the names of the hosts that are timing out, it will be difficult to troubleshoot.

Hello guys

This is all and internal network I am not monitoring any remote sites or hosts.
All monitored hosts are on the same subnet

It is just the VM machine that get this most of the time

Whether the system is local or remote doesn't matter, if it doesn't respond in time, it will timeout.

Still does not explain why it happens

of course a Timeout but why a timeout is the question.

You run a check_nrpe status and it returns everything is ok so why the services timeing out?

I bet the plugin is taking too long, or it's failing. Read the log files, they usually indicate what's going on and a good hunch on what to look for. That's probably the case if other plugins are working.

I am going to post another issue.
