ignore my previous message, we are still having same issue with updated version of XI which is 2012R1.8 " unable to search with specific character which is '0171:tec_jnpr_1:' "
kindly have a look and update me asap. also where i can see the changelog of old to new XI

Dear Experts,
just now observed one thing when i did quick search with following format it's work. instead of ":" i put "_" in quick find and gave me the correct result.

So it was working properly on 1.7 but not 1.8 since you upgraded again? Looking into this now, you can view the change logs by visiting:
