I fyou can get the same information from the counters, use the check_nt command, otherwise we will have to continue to troubleshoot the original command. We do know that mssql is responding now, though we do not know if it is responding on an external port as check_nt interfaces with nsclient to check locally.

EDIT: do you have any access logs on the mssql server that can be checked for permission denied etc errors?
