Without some form of ndo2db service, the ndo module for nagios will have nothing to connect to. Try listing /etc/init.d/ for us and see if anything pops out there:

Looks like ubuntu calls it ndoutils instead of ndo2db. So lets start that, restart nagios, and see if you still get the same errors.

servce nagios restart

Look at your logs, and post some back if you could.

i started again ndoutils and restarted nagios.

after restarting, the following appears in /var/lo/nagios3/nagio.log :

Any further errors concerning data sink, or do you see the message: "Successfully connected to data sink. " in your message log?

Just out of curiosity, have you attempted to use ndoutils 1.x instead of 2.x?
