Can you show examples of them?

hi scottwilkerson,
please refer to the screen capture. i mean these services that are classified as "Unknown" are also sent along with those classified as "Critical" to our snmp receiver.

Can you show the configuration from the CCM for these services?

hi scottwilkerson,
i think i found the answer..
quote "Because there isn't an Unknown SEVERITY we will use Critical for the Unknown service status's from Nagios." from official Nagios website:
https://support.nagios.com/kb/article.php?id=77
Is this correct?
Also, our snmp receiver is receiving too many "Critical" and "Unknown" messages. May i know i how can we manage number of notifications until it is resolved?

That is likely correct, not sure what your SNMP trap is sending.

Typically when you setup traps they are set to have the volatility flag on, this will send a notification for every trap received.
If you go to CCM -> Services -> select service -> Edit -> Check Settings Tab
under "Is Volatile" select Off
Save
Apply configuration
Then alerts will only be sent after the state changes.

hi scottwilkerson,
when i looked at the check settings in NagiosXI web interface, the Volatile option was not set to "On", it was "skipped". I am not sure.. Does this web setting tally with the actual setting? Because i also see that when i set the "freshness" setting for hosts and services in nagios.cfg to "1", the freshness setting in the web is still "skipped". i am confused..

hi scottwilkerson,
i realise notifications are different from alerts, just to clarify on my previous issue. Our snmp tranpsender is sending trap messages for a same host and service every single second to our 3rd party snmp receiver which is flooding them. These are alerts instead of notifications in Nagios terms?
How can i stop this flooding of trap messages?

Skip means to use the setting un the attached template, if there is none, it would be Off. Often certain passive checks have it set to On in the attached template.

this would be something you would need to change on the device sending the traps. It will likely be challenging to send just the correct amount if it is currently flooding but sometimes you can change settings to only send on change, it just depends on the device.

hi scottwilkerson,
is there any way to disable alert for a particular host or service if we know it would take some time to have the issue resolved?

hi scottwilkerson,
for snmp trapsender does it take notifications or alerts to be trapped over to the snmp trap receiver?
