Unconfigured objects keep appearing for deleted host

Nagios XI 2012R1.1

We recently shut down one of our monitored servers, so I deleted its host and related services from NagiosXI and applied the changes.

The old server is definitely NOT running (EDIT: that was totally wrong, see below), however we continue to see its services appear as new Unconfigured Objects.

I deleted /usr/local/nagiosxi/var/corelog.newobjects, and within a few minutes the file reappears with entries for the deleted host.

There are NO entries for the deleted host in any config files under /usr/local/nagios/etc/hosts/ and /usr/local/nagios/etc/services/.

What are we missing?

Update:

I started monitoring /usr/local/nagios/var/nagios.log for the host name, and saw several messages like the following:

Code: Select all

[1366320846] Warning: Check result queue contained results for service 'Swap Usage' on host 'user-desktop', but the service could not be found! Perhaps you forgot to define the service in your config files?
Where is the "Check result queue" and what could be populating it?

Btw, the old server was using passive services to communicate its status to Nagios.

And as I wrote that line, I was just informed by a co-worker that we had been told the server was shut down, but it really hadn't been yet.

Sorry for wasting everyone's time with this!

No worries, glad you figured it out! I was going to mention something must be up with a passive agent sending back.
