We rebooted our primary DNS server last night and nagios sent out a flapping detection alert message for practically everything we monitor.

here is the /etc/resolv.conf:

nameserver 10.11.0.60



the server we rebooted was 10.11.0.40. How can we prevent this in the future? Nagios XI 2012R1.6

Well it is possible that the states were going in and out rapidly "thus triggering this." That may be unavoidable if you restart networking equipment or services. That is not really something on Nagios XI's end, though you could disable flapping notifications for your hosts/services through the CCM.
