Hi Support
I am pretty new to Nagios and have been but in charge of setting it up. I am trying to get my head around everything and the relationships. The first probelms I am having is that any changes I make don't seem to save to the config file. When I click apply configuration I get "Configuration verification failed." I have tried this from the shell "/usr/local/nagios/bin/nagios -v /usr/local/nagios/etc/nagios.cfg" but its says I have no errors just warnings. I am pretty nothing is updating because I don't have any new hosts listed after I have added them. I have also uploaded new check scripts that are not available with selected the checks for the routers. How do I troubleshoot this. I do have a support contract.

Does anyone have any quick docs on how to setup hosts and services without the wizards. I am guessing for most stuff I want to monitor (I.E. Cisco ADSL SNR) I will need to use SNMP MIBs.

Finally how to you add multiple check commands to a host?

Sorry for the long email, I do realize that some of these are doubt questions.

When configuration verification fails, a log of the failure is saved in a snapshot. Go to Configure > Core Config Manager > Quick Tools > Configuration Snapshots, download the top snapshot with an error result, and attach that here.

I don't think we have much in the way of documentation for the core config manager yet, no. It's reasonably straightforward though, and has tooltip help in a lot of places.

For multiple check commands, normally you would make them all as separate services. If you really need multiple checks on the host you can use check_multi, a third party check plugin.

I think I understand about the checks. So for every check I want to reform I should just add the host to that check? I am guessing I can group serivces together and then add hosts to those service groups. Do most or all of the check require SNMP MIBs or sometime of arguments? I.E. bandwidth montioring would this require arguments or will it monitor all ports on the host?

Finally have added some hosts to services but when I got graph or host details in my views the host and services is not listed. This might be caused by the config not saving propertly.

With the configuration snapshot you send, I would also look at the text output that is paired with it. It will display any errors that were found in your configuration. I would take a look at that as well, and feel free to send that to us as well that will help us track down the error faster.

Could you attach the part from "View Update" on the snapshot as well?
