Can you use Nagios as your engine

Hi guys!
Im sorry if this is not the right spot to post this question. If you guys know of a better place, please let me know. I have been using Nagios for years now at different customer sites as a administrator, and I am looking at developing my own appliance / reporting solution for customers, and was wondering if anyone knew the rules around what i acceptable and what is not acceptable in using Nagios as the engine to do the core monitoring?
Basically the customer would never see that it is Nagios under the hood, they would see a custom from end to do configuration, as well as report generation.
Thanks in advance.
Scott
