I will be integrating NagiosXI to OTRS for autoticketing & Puppet for patch management. if anyone has done it before, or any link that can help me to proceed with.

Not sure which to use.

My Idea is to create ticket for critical alerts in OTRS.

Do I need to have mail server setup for this ?
I am testing this on development environment.
Do I need to installed any free mail client such as Hmailserver ?

what are the prerequisites for integrating NagiosXI to OTRS ?

We could take a look at it but as there is no documentation available it will require trial and error to get up and running. I recommend you take a look at our Incident Manager product for ideas on how you could go about doing this by hand.
