Display name

I have some hosts that have no DNS entires and are using SNMP Traps, so I have to set the hostname as their IP. The description is filled out with descriptive information and I have the display name field filled in with what their friendly name is.

The problem: Is that display name field actually used anywhere? I'd love for the quick find to search on that and also if something is in display name, that is displayed in the list instead of whatever is in hostname.

From the XI documentation dropdown in the ccm:
Host - display name

This directive is used to define an alternate name that should be displayed in the web interface for this host. If not specified, this defaults to the value you specify for the host_name directive.

Note: The current CGIs do not use this option, although future versions of the web interface will.

Parameter name: display_name
Required: no
Currently, I think this directive is unused. . . .

I saw that and read it. I was just hoping it was old documentation and was a lie :(

You can close this I guess

Yeah, I think that option is finally going to sneak into XI after the next major release. The thing is, there is already an alias directive, if you have not used that directive for some other organizational trick . . .

Yeah, already using that. I am the one who got the alias displayed when viewing hosts...was my feature request :)
