How do I add just a comment to down host/service

I have a down host that someone else is checking if it's still in service, I want to add a comment to this to that anyone viewing knows what's going on, but the only way I saw in forum posts to add a comment is to acknowledge the item and then enter a comment, only this takes it off the operations center list, the only way to get it back on is to remove the comment.
Just saying recheck this host doesn't work

Currently there is no way to post a comment on a host or service from XI, you can however use the Notes component to do this. I am going to bring up this issue at one of our meetings tomorrow and toss the idea around the table since admins should be able to comment or note a host/service and an icon should be visible on the object list showing someone has commented on the item.

yep we have that but it doesn't help, in our older nagios core there used to be a bubble that would appear next to the host / service and if you moused over it would say there is a comment, clicking on it would take you to the item and you could then see the note.
Big disappointment as we were told by the vendor who did our core to XI conversion this now worked correctly, a partner that Nagios recommended.

Actually you should still be able to add comments via core itself. So, if you were to navigate to one of your hosts/services details page's. You can click the Advanced tab, then select "See this service in Nagios Core." From here you can add a comment just as you did in core, and it will transfer over and be displayed on the host/service in XI.

That does work but does not display in operations center so still not of any real use, Good luck with your suggestions.

While it doesn't show in the operation center, it does show on the Status detail page for the host.
But, the flexibility of Nagios XI is in the fact that you can create (or have created) your own components to display the information you want
