I am taking a host (the Nagios host itself) out of maintenance most and am trying to issue
a forced notification. When I do that, I get the error

Error: Could not stat() command file '/usr/local/nagios/var/rw/nagios.cmd'!

(pl see screenshot attached).

Here is the listing of /usr/local/nagios/var/:

What is the root cause of this error?

Can you post the output of the following:

ll -la /usr/local/nagios/var/rw/

Is Nagios actually running?

mysqld (pid  8034) is running...
+ service postgresql status
postmaster (pid  1452) is running...
+ service crond status
crond (pid  5863) is running...
+ service npcd status
NPCD running (pid 1639).
+ service crond start
+ service nagios status
nagios (pid 29192) is running...
+ service httpd status
httpd (pid  5049) is running...

Did I miss any service relevant to Nagios?

Run the following commands and show us the output:

grep check_external_commands /usr/local/nagios/etc/nagios.cfg
grep nag /etc/group
