An associate reconfigured a hostname, and it seems that the services connected to that host were also updated to account for the change in hostname.

Is there any document that explains what happens when a hostname is changed?

Not that I know of, however any time changes are made in the CCM, it only writes changes to that config. So services, host\service groups, and templates are the most likely issues. However running a write and verify configuration should state any errors that you would have.
