Hello to all,
I am new to Nagios and try to install the demo.
Our network does not have a connection to the internet. Does that mean we cannot install Nagios at all?
Or is there another way to install.....
Regards, Alfons

Internet connection is required for installs and upgrades, however we may be able to help you with an offline install. Can you run the following commands, and show the output?

I have the same issue on Linux RedHat 5.8, my company does not allow servers to have direct access to the Internet so YUM is a no go. This problem will not be an isolated issue.
cat /etc/redhat-release produces "Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.8 (Tikanga)"

You will need to move the packages required by Nagios XI to the closed off test bed system on your network, and then work on installing from there. Or if your company has their own repo set up in house, check and see if you can upload the packages there.

We dont have a closed off testbed system? In any case we would still have to install on the LIVE servers and obviously we cant move those. Is there no package for Linux like the Solaris 10 platform, where the clients come in a package?

This is what I was referring to. If you have set up a server or vm within your network already. XI does not come in a packaged version, however we do have VM's available if you can slot one into a ESX server, or run it locally on a workstation within your companies network. That, or what other people have done is set up the physical nagios server "if it is bare metal" and then move it into the new network.
Of course, VM's are a lot easier to work with and that would be my first recommendation. We do have an offline installation path however you would need to talk to sales about that as it is at their discretion if current non-customers have access to it.

Sorry this is an already production environment and the VM router is not possible the target servers we are running on are Oracle database kit, we need the performance VM's dont give you this. Linux also is not our prime UNIX distro for many reasons, so spending time on it
Before we even talk to sales, we need to know if it will work, that's a given? for a market leader in systems monitoring.
So what users out here need to see is a standalone Linux package (like the Solaris 10 package), you will find many organisations will not permit their production servers to access the internet for security reasons.
As I've said in another thread, there are so many problems encountered so far that to purchase anything at this time for testing purposes would be a waste.

I also think you misunderstand, I am ONLY talking about client packages - not the Nagios XI Server, that's already running as a demo in a VM

OK, so you are only trying to install the nrpe client on a system that does not have internet access? I do not presently have a RHEL 5.8 install to build such an offline installer. However I can give you install instructions for the small amount of packages that you would need, and if you can build the executable on another system it can be transferred over without issue. Otherwise, at this time we do not provide the linux nrpe agent as a pre-built executable due to the many different variations of linux that it would have to support. We do include ones for HP-UX and Solaris in some cases as there are many less variations.
You are correct, I believe we were misunderstanding what you needed, I hope this clears it up a bit more!
So what users out here need to see is a standalone Linux package (like the Solaris 10 package), you will find many organizations will not permit their production servers to access the internet for security reasons.
If you could use RHEL 5.6, 5.9, 6.3 or 6.4, we could accommodate your request for a pre-built binary, and packaging of the rpms needed. However, you will definitely need to install rpms, whether from us or RHEL directly. Also just to confirm, you are not looking for oracle linux packaging? Finally, in actuality we do not see many customers requesting the linux agents be available offline, you are only the second person that I have run into with this request. We certainly will do our best to help out though.
