I put all my hosts in downtime and nagios said it would only send email alerts to admins. After putting them in downtime it started sending emails to all the contacts associated with the hosts (hundreds and hundreds of emails). I tried stopping this by turning off notifications but still it kept sending them I turned off the engine and still it kept sending them, i restarted nagios and it still kept sending them. I turned off the VM and finally they stopped. When i turned back on the VM it started send them again. I dont know what to do, if i turn back on the VM it will start over loading the mail servers and mail boxes. PLEASE HELP

Matt,
Did disabling notifications from Home --> Process info --> click the "X" to the right of notifications - not work?

Are the hosts out of downtime yet?
Are the mails it sends out from a recent timestamp? (Just checking that you do not have a ton of spooled emails from the incident)

You could try clearing the configuration for email under "manage email settings".

I turned the VM back on today and didnt even get to clearing the config because it only sent out 2 more emaills with todays time stamp and that was it. The big question here is why did it send emails to every contact assoiciated with the hosts being put in downtime and why could i not stop the notifications?

This is a good question, maybe we can flush out an answer. The contacts should be notified when downtime is started and when it ends. But I take it you were receiving alerts (not downtime notifications) for all objects put into downtime, correct?

It was downtime notifications but i didnt want to have one sent to every tech that was associated with the host and service and it said it would only send to the admins. Then once it started sending the alerts i tried to stop it by turning off notifications and even the engine but it would not stop. I need to be able to set a blackout period for a large number of hosts on a semi regular basis without it sending an email. Is there any way of making it so i can run reports that will not be affected by these scheduled outages (manintenance) but without sending notifications to everyone telling them a downtime start and stop?

Each user can manage his/her notification preferences by clicking on the username in the upper right corner, then clicking on the "Notification Preferences" sub-menu on the left. To disable notifications on downtime, clear the "Host Downtime" and "Service Downtime" tick boxes under the "Notification Types" section, and click on "Update Settings".
Note: If you have Nagios XI Enterprise Edition, you could set notification preferences for all users under the "Notification Settings Management", even lock the settings for selected (non-administrative) users. If you haven't purchased Enterprise, yet you can try it for free for 60 days (fully functional trial). Hope this helps.
