Disabling some services or checks

Our website is run from our own data-center. However, we have multiple(sort of) disaster recovery DCs.

When not failed over to the DR DC, we only want to monitor memory, disk and other standard checks. When we are failed over, we want to easily add all the other custom checks we currently have on our primary DC. We can't monitor all the time as those instances are not up and would be failing the 350 days of the year they are not used.

We have an enterprise license, so we are going to spin up another NagiosXI server in the DR DC. I can handle getting everything configured on it. My one question is, how would you go about handling this, so you can easily disable/enable a bunch of services?

Do I just go into the CCM and change the configs from not active to active when needed? I don't want to have to do that for 3,000 services, how can I group that so it is only a few clicks? My brain is too fried from today to think this out properly.

Heya bandit, one way you could do this would be to apply your services to multiple "of the same type of" host, or host group. That would greatly limit the amount of items you would have to disable. And yes I would recommend going the Activate/Deactivate rout. You can also click the Select All button to check all of your services, and then from the "With Selected" box on the bottom of the CCM page select Deactivate, this would be useful if you were disabling everything on the server.

I've only ever used the DELETE from that drop down, so forgot it contained activate and deactivate. That is definitely an option now. The total service definitions will equal about 150, so can easily select all, deselect the few standard checks and then either deactivate or activate the checked ones.

I may even have to re-install Fusion for this as well, to simplify the looking at things since I'll be going to 3 production servers.

Lock 'er up, I'm done with this thread :D
