Quick Find - Hosts with no services are not displayed

When I use the Quick Find box on the Home screen menu, it seems to only search "services".

I have hosts defined that do not have any services.

For example:
I have two hosts called "248.1 - RK - WAN" and "248.2 - RK - WAN"
I type 248. in the Quick Find box
As I type I can see that it does find the host objects as it shows me a list
01 - It knows about the host objects.png
I select the "248.1 - RK - WAN" text and then click the Go button
It then tells me No matching services found
02 - No results because this host has no services.png
If I click the Host Detail link on the left menu and then perform a search in the right hand side it works
03 - Found the host under Host Detail link.png

It would be good if Quick Find on the left menu displayed a host even if it doesn't have any services associated with it.

From the looks of it, the Quick Find does display the host, but the actual issue is what page is displayed when you click "Go", is it not?

Yes, thats a better summary of the issue.

So would it be useful if there was some logic that said something along the lines of "if there are no services associated with the host, go to the host page directly instead, and possibly display a notification on the page explaining that was what happened"?

Yes that sounds good. The message should be clear in saying that the host object does exist.

The confusing bit is when you do a search (like in the screenshots below) when there are multiple host objects starting with 248. There may also be other "248 .... something" objects that do have services. In that scenario it would return the results as a list of services and the two hosts without services are not be displayed in the list.

is there any update on this issue, we use nagiosXI for the sole purpose of up/down monitoring and dont have any services associated with our 1500+ routers, it would be very nice to be able to use the quick find to search for hosts and not services.

In 2011R1 the search will redirect you to a host search if it does not find any services that match the search, I am unsure if this was implemented in the latter 2009 versions.

Yes it is in the latest 2009 it is included as well as 2011. Also to note you may use a comma-separated (with no spaces at all) search if you are including multiples such as host1,host2,host3 etc.
