Hi all

I'm tryin to add the power of tarantella to the nagios project in order
to do this:

Add a link called "host control" or "host admin" as you wish, in the
host detail page in order to take the administrative control of the host
on which nagios have found problems.

This could be very very useful for all the administrators out there that
use nagios/netsaint in order to control their hosts and use external
program in order to admin them. With this solution it would be something
like a nagios "embedded" program to admin them! :)
Similar to what does some crap programs such as tng, openview etc... :)

In the attach file you can see an image of my modified nagios and the
extinfo.c modified in order to add tarantella....but...wait!!...

I'm not a coder!..so by now the only things that works with my changes
are these:

1) added "host control" link in the "host detail page"
2) and by clicking on that link now simply starts a win2000 desktop in
any case!...so i have not implemented any variables that takes care for
the host to connect and the admin program to use!!!

So....what i have in mind is this:

When you click on the "host control" link should appen this:

"http tarantella lunch command" + host variable + admin program type
variable (i know that that they are not the correct syntax for the
tarantella http lunch program but it's just to give the idea)

The host varible already exists in the nagios cgi enviroment, while the
program type doesn't!

So i think that the things to be made are these:

1) configure tarantella in order to add all the host we want to control
and for each host add the program type we want to use on that host.
There should be just templates!..
2) add in the host.conf file a parameter that is the name of the program
used to admin that host written exactly as it is in tarantella config!
3) so once you click on "host control" it takes the host varible by the
normal nagios cgi variable + the admin program type by the host.config
file.

I perfectly know that we also need a lot of security things because by
that link you take control of a host!

So about that i have these thoughts:

1) use https for both nagios and tarantella
2) once you click on the "host cotnrol" there should be another logon
request before take control.
This control request could be:
- a "tarantella logon reuqest"
or
- a logon request made by the admin program we would use: For
example the "logon window" for windows desktop or the login and
password request for a cisco telnet
or
- both but...i think that security is good..but it should not be
too silly!

That is just and idea...on wich i can help but also i need help....

So please let me know your ideas...thoughts...suggestions....and HELP!

Ciao

Pietro
