I would always vote for the finer control if they are the same to implement.
Either one will accomplish what I'm after for the moment but I can see ways
to use the finer grained control in future developements.

P.S. Ethan do you have a list somewhere of patches that have been submitted
and the (your) status on them. (ex. not gonna accept this one, looking at
this one, working on this one)
