Please find the below settings in my setup.

$ ls -l /var/nagios/ndo.sock
srwxr-xr-x 1 nagios nagios 0 Jul 11 05:26 /var/nagios/ndo.sock
$

$ mysql -undouser -pndopassword nagios
Reading table information for completion of table and column names
You can turn off this feature to get a quicker startup with -A
