Martin,

Unless you have a very good reason for doing so - it's best practice to use
the IP address instead of the DNS hostname anyway.

What happens if your name resolution fails? - you end up with all your
services in an Unknown/Critical state, a _very_ busy pager and an angry tech
if this happens in the middle of the night when they are on call ;-))

You might also try asking your question on the nagios-users list.
