Or it could increase the problems if the database was the one that was
down.

I understand the desire (and for some shops, the need) to have Nagios
integrated with a number of tools, but for a lot of us, its the simplicity
and lack of dependence on other products that brought us to this package.
I had my choice of tools - but since Nagios didn't _require_ me to install
any other package to get it to work reasonably, it was the first one I
evaluated and rapidly became the one to use.

So I urge people when they think about adding dependencies on databases or
php - think about simplicity of installation and operation. The more things
there are, the more things there are that can break. The features they
bring are nice and sometimes essential, but there is a cost involved.
