Hello,
Is there any way to use the hypermap in an efficient way? it just seems too chaotic to do anything with it...
Tx

Hypermap and the network status map more or less require parent-child relationships to be useful. Judging by your screenshot, I presume you have yet to define parent hosts in the configs.

Yes indeed, I didn't use parent child relationships. We use Nagios XI mainly to monitor servers and websites, not network devices. It would be nicer though if it was possible to zoom in. Tried to ctrl-scroll, but only messed up things more.

Some clients have used dummy hosts as parents for certain groups of machines to make the map more readable.

It seems like a good idea to use the BPI Wizard for grouping these hosts?

If you what to use the hypermap, your best bet would be to set up parent/child relationships. You can zoom in/out by scrolling the mouse wheel. Click on a host to re-position it to the center, etc. You can create various BPI groups, and logically organize your hosts/services, however this would be mostly useful when you view them in BPI.

Even with Parent/Child relationships it can get a little bit...chaotic. Though you can zoom in and it is pretty useful when you set it up. Ours is so busy it doesn't even load in IE or Chrome, only works in Firefox. Besides zooming in you can also click on a specific host to re-center the map around that host which often helps make it easier to read.

Nice screenshot. I'm not sure yet if it's worth configuring parent child relationships yet, as I have so much other more important things on my to do list...
It would be nice to have a searchbox near the hypermap where you can search for the host you want in the center, as for me at this moment it's impossible to select a specific host.

Yeah, that's a thought. For very large installations, the hypermap flirts with information overload. . . .

I'll make a feature request for it:

I hope you guys don't think I'm sending too many feature requests? I just want to try help you make your product better. The last months I had presentations of New Relic, Splunk, Co-Scale and SCOM 2012 and while you have a very nice product, there is a lot of room for improvement (if I may say so). We did choose Nagios XI to replace our SCOM 2007 R2 environment...
Greetings.
