I am running Nagios XI version 1.6 (I know I need to upgrade it), but I have my Database Administrators and my IT staff asking for something I am having trouble figuring out with create separate contacts. The want to be notified by email for everything (down, up, warning, unknown, flapping, critical, recovery, and scheduled downtime), but only get a text message for down, critical, and recovery. Is this possible without creating separate contacts for each user?
I have tried with two different contact templates applied to me user account and I get notified via text and email for everything. When I have two separate contacts set up for my user account it works as anticipated, I am looking to accomplish this without two contacts for every user. Unfortunately each user is watching and caring for different hosts and services, so a contact group or exchange distribution group will not work.

Unfortunately this won't work without making two contacts for each person. Each contact handles what they get alerted to, how the alert is sent, and when. There aren't currently options for defining "if/then" logic... Unless you submit a feature request :D
