Recommended Upgrade Path for Nagios XI

What version of Nagios XI are you using? Nagios XI 2009R1.1H
Linux Distribution and version? CentOS release 5.4
32 or 64bit? 32 bit
VMware Image or Manual Install of XI? vmware image
I have inherited responsibility for a very "out of date" Nagios installation (as you see from the information above.) I want to bring the software installation up to the latest released revision, along with moving to a 64 bit architecture, and retaining all of our current historical data, components, etc.
Is there a recommended upgrade path to accomplish these goals above?
1. Is the upgrade from 2009R1.1H to 2012R2.5 direct, or do I need to install to jump multiple versions?
2. In shifting from a 32-bit architecture to 64-bit architecture, I was to download the VmWare template that held the installs for 2012R2.5, and then utilize the backup/restore procedure documented in:
http://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nagi ... ing_XI.pdf
However, these scripts do not exist in the version we currently have running. Can they still be used, or is there another recommended procedure?
3. In order to retain all our performance data, I will have to convert that into rrd files as defined in your FAQ. Is there any other steps I am missing in order to transfer all our data over?
I appreciate the assistance.
