Monitor engine won't start

After removing a host from monitoring the dashboard still showed the host was down. I tried restarting the monitoring engine and it stopped but didn't start. I tried to manually start and get the error "The command failed". At the command prompt I checked the nagios service and it said no lock file found. I then tried to start nagios and it says CONFIG ERROR! Start aborted. What are my next steps to troubleshoot the problem? Thanks

Never mind, I went into CCM and applied the configuration and it restarted the monitoring engine. Odd, I never had to do that before when removing a host.
