DNS resolution issue

Hi!
I have a mac osx host on which I have installed nagios but dns resolution barfs out after roughty an hr or so while using check_http.
Has anyone faced this issue before. I am using check_http and get "nodename nor servname provided" for all my URL checks even though through browser they are all fine.
If I place all my entries in /etc/hosts all remains well. The dns resolution on the box is all fine and even check_http runs fine on commandline but not when called by Nagios after an hr or so.
Can someone suggest if they have encountered this issue and how I can fix this?
I am using Mac OSX 10.7.0 and Nagios 3.
