dsn checks

hello,
we perform a dsn service check on our web sites. the (2) dsn servers that resolve the name are listed as parents to the host. EX:
define host
name host1
parents nameserver1, nameserver2
...
is this really necessary or can the (2) dsn servers have a service dependency configured that will suffice?
