I had been holding off on applying the license to our 2011 instance, as it will not be have it's final IP until after go live. I didn't think it was a big deal, as I don't need extra features. Well, today I go in a discovered one of the extra features was viewing any alerts on the home page. I get the following when I click "All Service Problems"
License Exceeded
You have exceeded your license limits. Upgrade your license to access this feature and obtain support services.

Can I license it for the IP that it is going to be, and use it on a different IP?

Thanks,
Andy

The problem could a couple things, and thats a hairy question, we could get down to the root if you sent us a screenshot of your license information. For privacy reasons, can you email use a screenshot of that information to [email protected] ? We can take it from there!

To this point, we don't have any licensed servers.....just trials. I had built a dev system, but it died.

....to explain further. I was told that we could license a Production and Dev server with one license. I had licensed the dev server......

Yeah with a NagiosXI license, you can run 3 servers. The intended allotment of those three servers is a production server, a backup server and a test server.

Roger that.....but, I have to license based on IP. Right now, our pre-production server is .20, and it will change to .19 when we put into production. Will this cause an issue with the license??

I need to have the system fully functional before production, and as the trial license has expired it is not.

Thanks,
Andy

I believe the only place this would be an issue would be if you "activated" the license on more than 3 IP addresses. If you need to change IP addresses of your servers and you find that you've exceeded this limit, you can contact [email protected] and they can assist you with this.

I appreciate your assistance......however, I cannot wing this with an "I believe....." statement. If this goes wrong, it is my ass. Here is the scenario that I have planned on using for a migration:

Bring up a pre-production server on xxx.xxx.xxx.20, sending email to test.mailserver.com (which received and dumps the alarm notifications).

Migrate all the configuration files. Most will pass, some will fail due to firewalls and access lists....thus the test email server.

On Go-Live, change the IP to xxx.xxx.xxx.19 and set the mail server to production.mailserver.com, after 15 minutes.

I need to know, without a show of a doubt, whether changing the IP will cause a licensing issue, as the .20 will have been used to register the server with your website.

Thanks,
Andy

As I said before, an "activated" license key covers up to 3 simultaneous instances / IP Addresses, although you may need to reactivate the license key with the new address once the changeover happens. I know I'm throwing in a "you may," but I haven't personally tested an IP address change on an already activated copy.

If you want I can verify with sales how many activated IP addresses are in use.
