Well, let's start with what version of XI you are presently using. I did check, and from here it looks like your license was activated, and is listed as 100 node, so unless you are hitting both IP and hostname node count issues.

How many hosts do you have listed under:
Admin > License Information > "Current Hosts:"

179, but when I go under Configuration, Core Config Manager, and Hosts, I have only 55 and these 55 are the only ones I want to monitor. But under issues I have hosts that are coming up as down and are listed by IP, but they are not in the 55 hosts that I have.

Did you add hosts to the nagiosxi static config file directory? Are you making sure to display all hosts in Configure > CCM > Hosts via the drop down in the bottom of the page?

I added the host by doing an automatic search and then removing the hosts I did not want to monitor as well as the associated services. I do not know how to access the Static Config file directory. When viewing the list of host I have it set to display 250 hosts and it only shows 55. I am guess that there are some hosts in the database the were not removed.

Did you apply configuration after removing those hosts? Configure > CCM > Apply Configuration? Does it come back clean with three green check marks?

Yes I have applied the configuration and it does come back clean. I have found something, if I click on the admin tab and choose host detail from the left side I do get 179 hosts listed. 124 of the hosts are listed by ip and most of them are workstations, printers, and Ip phones that I thought I had removed from the host database. 55 of them are listed by the device name, because I edit that, and are the actual devices I want to monitor. If I click on one of the hosts listed by IP and go to the configure tab and choose "Delete this host" I get:
Could not find a unique id for this host
Host cannot be deleted using this method
Sounds like maybe I have some host records that are partial available in the database? if that is possible. Any way to edit the database file and remove the invalid records?

It is possible you are seeing what we call the "Ghost Host Phenomenon." Please follow these steps to try and resolve the issue:
