Setting breakpoints on graphs

Hello,
This seems to me as a good idea, maybe a litle hard to implement, but worth it imo. Before I make a feature request, what do you guys think?
Setting breakpoints, checkpoints or some kind of pointer on a certain date and time for a service or host, which would be saved and stands for a major change or update on this host / service. These pointers should be visible on graph explorer dashlets.. That way, when at a later point, we would make a dashlet with perfdata from the last year for example, it would show all the major updates and changes on the graph.
Good idea or not?
Grtz.

Hmm, so maybe implementing the ability to mark points on the graphs from the web interface, and name them? Probably would not be able to alter the RRD's physically, but perhaps by working some PHP magic on the front end.

Yes, something like that would be awesome. I can imagine this would be hard to implement, but imagine the value. When looking at graphs for a host, the breakpoints would show all the major changes to a host. There would have to be some considerations in order to make it work.
1) I think it would be somehow possible to insert a 'breakpoint' on host level. If setting a breakpoint would be done in the graph explorer or on a dashlet, they wouldn't be persistent. Options would be for example with a quick action, or with the advanced tab commands. Breakpoints set for a host would be visible (if enabled) for all the hosts services graphs/
2) it should be possible to see a list of all breakpoints with the XI gui, for example with an extra tab (like the history component) called changes or breakpoints or whatever name that suits. it should be possible to add, modify and delete the breakpoints.
3) In the graph explorer, it should be possible to enable or disable breakpoints. Forcing people to always show breakpoints is not an option I think. it would have to be an optional feature.
4) It would also be necessary to add a dashlet where breakpoints are enabled to a dashboard. That way changes for different hosts can be combined in a dashboard and compared.
I really think this would be a feature that would lift nagios XI further from the competition, as I did not see such an option anywhere yet. I'm not sure about other enterprises, but here we are starting to get really bothered with change management and somethign as described above would be perfect. Let me know if I can be of any help or if any clarifiction is required.

In the meantime we've been discussing this with somecolleagues and we agreed it should not be a breakpoint, but a vertical breakline instead...

That is sort of what I was envisioning, this would be a bit hard to work into the PNP graphs since they are static, but Graph Explorer graphs in which you can zoom in and move around would work out great! Adding this as an internal feature request.

Fantastic! Just imagine us sysadmins showing a dashboard with several 'breaklines' (I'd think breakline is better then breakpoint) to our management showing all the major changes / updates and their impact. Imagine their happy faces when they see everything is running better than before the breaklines....

Hahahaha, that's the trick!
