Is it necessary to add a nagios client to a windows box if I want to monitor it?

I know nothing about it. where do I get it if needed? how do i install it?

was under the impression, I just had to create file.cfg files for hosts in the objects folder?

Is there any special way to do this or just viing an existising server.cfg file and saving it with new names settings will work?

You will need an agent running on the Windows machine, but you may also use WMI if it is already configured. For agents I recommend NCPA (not mentioned in the link) or NSClient++. You will not be able to simply copy a server config, since the check arguments will be different.
