Test Email Alert

hello, i am new to nagios, and have a question. I updated "contacts.cfg". I ran the check and restarted the nagios process.... This was about 2 weeks ago, yet I have not received any email alerts from nagios. Which seems odd, that the random alerts i was getting no longer come in (maybe things are fine...)

In the past I was just forwarding the alerts to my email address. Is there a way to send a test alert? To see if it makes it to my email?

~]# /usr/bin/nagios -v /etc/nagios/nagios.cfg

...

Total Warnings: 0
Total Errors: 0

Things look okay - No serious problems were detected during the pre-flight check
[root@murray ~]#

Hopefully this makes sense, thanks to anyone who responds

The best way to send a test alert from core would be to go to one of your hosts/services which that contact is assigned to and send a 'Custom Notification' this will not alter the state of the object, but will attempt to send a notification through it the same way it would if nagios would have triggered one.
