Host Naming

Is there a description on what these names mean? I thought "Display Name" would be what shows and it's "New Name" that does. When is each name used?

"New Name" : Only relevant for the rename feature. Ignore.
"Display Name" : Not currently implemented in core or XI.
"Alias" : Used for searches etc.
Host Name" : The object name. Can be searched. Must be unique.
